Questions and answers about robotic mower safety
At Husqvarna, we are constantly developing the future of lawn care and in 2026 launched AI vision technology. An in-built camera detects objects and with the use of advanced AI, it identifies the objects, then acts according to the type of object it is. This allows for the robotic mower to avoid objects on the lawn, ensuring intelligent and uninterrupted mowing.
Is it safe to use Husqvarna’s robotic lawn mowers?
All Husqvarna products are designed to be safe to operate. Husqvarna group is committed to offering products and services to the highest safety and quality standards. Safety is our primary concern, and we constantly work hard to improve the safety of our products. This why we have equipped all our mowers with pivoting blades and more recently, we have launched mower models equipped with AI vision technology, which can identify and avoid objects in the garden.
Are there any other ways owners of robotic lawn mowers can avoid harming hedgehogs?
If you live in an area with gardens that easily attract hedgehogs, you can schedule your mower to only mow during the daytime. For some models this can easily be done by enabling our Consideration for Wildlife Smart Routine which automatically parks your mower from sunset to sunrise. For mower models equipped with our advanced AI vision technology, the mower reacts with precision and avoids objects on the lawn, even during the night when hedgehogs are most active. You can find more tips for a hedgehog friendly garden here.
What does Husqvarna do to ensure the safety of hedgehogs and other small animals?
Keeping hedgehogs and other small animals safe in your garden is important to us. We work to develop the features of our products to ensure that we live up to this standard.
- All Husqvarna robotic lawn mowers are equipped with pivoting blades, and most are equipped with either skid plates and/or front wheel drive.
- The Automower® cutting system does not start the blades at the charging station. The robotic mower drives away for five seconds before mowing which allows small animals taking protection under the mower to leave.
- The Consideration for Wildlife Smart Routine parks the mower from sunset to sunrise while hedgehogs are the most active.
- AI vision technology which enables mowers equipped with an in-built camera to identify and avoid objects on your lawn.
What will you do to ensure that your mowers will not harm juvenile hedgehogs?
In 2026 we launched AI vision technology which can detect and avoid objects, like hedgehogs, on your lawn. There is also the Consideration for Wildlife Smart Routine, which parks the mower at night while hedgehogs are most active. Information about how to create a welcoming environment for hedgehogs and small animals are available here.
What is the Wildlife Consideration feature?
Our Wildlife Consideration feature ensures that the robotic mower does not move around while hedgehogs are the most active (between dusk and dawn), and can be activated through the accompanying app.
